As I sit in my office typing this document I can see my breath and am using indexless gloves.  This July and August have made this season the coldest winter in north Chile for YEARS.  The weather, however, has not been able to discourage the warm openness to the Gospel we have been observing among many people in this rugged sector of the world.

Chance encounters, new believers in discipleship, a growing interest in reaching out to others, and an interest in starting new groups have sparked excitement among several leaders we work with.  No, I could not call it “revival”, but it sure makes all the investment time worthwhile.  Please continue to pray as we mentor and train leaders and I ask that you especially pray for us as we begin to focus on the much SLOWER response  areas in the rural Andean river valleys.  Of greatest need is discovering potential leaders and encouraging them to take the initiative in personal growth and service.

Our family dynamics are in constant flux, just like yours!  Our daughter H. (forgive the use of initials…for security reasons) will start her second year of university in California.  We are just simply amazed how God has taken care of so many details in her life.  She has truly grown and matured and makes us proud.  M. starts her senior year of high school, and we covet your prayers for her as she seeks to wisely map out her new horizons.   Our sons, P. and D., are in second and third grade …and, how can I put this?…..wonderfully wearing us out!  We do need specific direction in several important matters with our children and ask that you pray for us to clearly discern the Lord’s will as we seek to be good and godly parents.

Remember that we cherish your friendship, your correspondence, and especially your faithful prayers.  Our lives are made richer because of you.  It may be winter in Chile, but our hearts are warmed with genuine gratitude and affection.
